Beyond its remarkable flavour, the cultural roots embedded in Indonesia Sumatra Mandheling add an extra layer of appreciation. Originating from the Mandailing area in North Sumatra, this coffee bean was brought to Indonesia for the first time by the Dutch in the late 1600s. Rather than being named after the area it is cultivated in like most coffees, this is named after the Mandheling people who were traditionally the farmers of the coffee beans.
